TO EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}) FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}) Copy to CJ. [text is struck through] ORIGINAL R2/M15.10.25. X8770 [handwritten] X8500 [handwritten and struck through] X8310 [handwritten] NEW PHANTOMCodename for PHANTOM I MODIFICATIONS. EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} is arranging modifications to the New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I which consist of (1) the present frame drilled differently, (2) the present gearbox with modified suspension, (drawings of which were sent by AJS. over three months ago,) (3) the engine pushed further forward, and (4) a stepped dashboard, and the instructions will be ready in the course of a few days. The object of these modifications is (a) to obtain better support for the steering column, (b) to shorten the steering column, (c) to provide about 2" more body space with the same wheelbase, and (d) a larger dia. fabric coupling. All these points are simple, sound, and necessary improvements, which should be embodied as quickly as possible. On this chassis we shall endeavour to provide an easier lubricating system, and possibly also we may be able to test the lighter front axle with more vertical king posts, which might be known as "the front axle with tubular ends". If you could push on with the gearbox mentioned above it would enable this modified chassis to be quickly on the road. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
