X6022. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GJL/AD. 5th May, 1931. Messrs. Boyce Motor Accessories Ltd. 3, Furlong Rd. Holloway Rd. London, N.7. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter ref. GRB/LDR/4. of the 27th ult, referring to the Boyce electric clock No. 601. For your information we give the history of this clock so that you may better understand the position. The clock was brought to us by your representatives Mr. Walford and Mr. Hepburn when they visited these Works in September last, and was unsealed by themselves in our presence to enable us to see the electrical portion of the movement. We gave them our assurance that the clock would not be tampered with or any adjustments attempted and it was left in our care unsealed. The clock was tested on the bench for several weeks and found to be generally satisfactory. During these tests whilst trying the clock on low voltage the fuse breaker operated, thus breaking the circuit, and a piece of copper wire was fitted in place of the fuse portion. This did not interfere with the normal working of the clock. It was sealed with red wax before leaving our laboratory to prevent unauthorised persons interfering with the movement and then fitted to a car. It ran satisfactorily on this car for five months under normal running conditions, and failed whilst still in service. | ||
