RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} c.HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 81474. BY/EM2/J.10.2.32. J.111 Cylinder Liners. We have been in touch with the Sheepbridge Stokes Centrifugal Castings Co. Limited, in order to get them to produce some cylinder liners for us in austenitic steel cast by their centrifugal process. If it is decided to use austenitic steel for cylinder liners, this would probably represent the cheapest method of producing the liners. The Sheepbridge Company have now delivered to us four liners in Firth's H.R.Crown Steel and a further four in 5% Manganese Steel. Both of these cylinders have a high expansion figure especially the 5% Manganese. We have instructed the Stores to hand these liners over to you and if it is decided to proceed with the machining of same they will no doubt require to be hardened by the nitriding process in the bore and to assist these both sets of liners, they should be copper deposited in the bore before the hardening process.
