Query from Mr. Royce regarding a faulty petrol level indicator on the 40/50 HP model, suggesting the cause may be large apertures in the tank baffles.

Referring to the above, Mr. Royce wishes to know if the very large apertures in the 40/50 H.P. petrol tank baffles may be the cause of the petrol moving about sufficiently to upset the level indicator, and allow the finger to get out of phase with the magnet by half a turn. With both the finger armature and the horse shoe magnetised, the aforegoing point does not apply of course, but Mr. Royce thinks that if the agitations of the petrol was the cause of the original trouble with the indicator, then it is better in any case to use only small holes through the petrol tank baffles, as the only duty these holes have to do is to feed petrol as required from one compartment to another.
