BODY WEIGHT OF 20-GIV With reference to Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/M12.2.32 it appears that you have unfortunately not received our memo which gave particulars of the weight of 20-GIV and consequently have got rather a wrong impression. In addition we find that we ourselves have made a mistake in our figures. We will, however, endeavour to clear up the muddle entirely. Dealing first of all with the increase in weight of special features on 20-GIV as compared with the standard 2nd half of "T" series chassis, we have the following :- Plus Minus Dropped radiator.. .. .. - 6 lbs. Large tank and increase of petrol 43 lbs. - Complete exhaust system. 50 lbs. - Front apron. .. .. .. 5 lbs. - Balance weights on engine .. 11 lbs. - Sheet metal battery box .. .. 4 lbs. - Synchro mesh gear box. .. .. 35 lbs. - Rivetless bonnet. .. .. 5 lbs. - P.80 lamps (Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}'s figure) .. .. 4 lbs. - Discs to wheels (Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}'s figure) .. 50 lbs. - ------- ------- 207 lbs. 6 lbs. ------- ------- Difference 201 lbs. Weight of standard chassis 2650 lbs. " " " spares 108 lbs. (includes wheel and tyre). " " " accessories 32 lbs. -------- 2790 lbs. -------- Adding the increased weight of the special features (201 lbs) we get 2991 lbs. as the calculated weight of 20-GIV chassis including petrol etc., all spares and tools, accessories and one spare wheel. | ||
