Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation} c. Ve/NP. EJJ. Cgh{W Clough}/EM.11/J.12.9.40. RECEIVED SEP 13 1940 40 m/m Gear Barrels. We have had the opportunity of discussing with Mr. Burton the question of making these barrels in "00" Steel and we understand Mr. Burton wrote to you on the subject on the 8th inst. Mr. Burton is most anxious that we should impress on all concerned that "00" Steel is not suitable for a barrel of this size and he anticipates endless trouble with heat treatment to get the necessary physical properties. From the production aspect therefore, we consider "00" Steel should be avoided. Cgh{W Clough}/EM. | ||
