MARLES STEERING IN P.II. CAR.

We have gone carefully into the question of fitting the Marles steering to a P.II. car with the manufacturers. From your sketch, Ex.9397, we have come to the conclusion that it is not a feasible proposition to get this particular Marles box on to a P.II. chassis. We find, however, that the Marles Co. make a 'Q' type steering box which we think will answer our purpose from a point of view of efficiency, and the clearances that can be obtained are shewn in the Adamant Eng Co's drawing MGA.{M. G. Aspley} 20100, the steering box in their drawing GA. 2425.

In the general arrangement sketch the proposal is for us to utilise their box exactly as it is produced. They will, however, fit a flange so that it can be bolted up directly on to our existing side channel support. This is shewn with the centres slightly spread. They propose to thin down their support for the pendulum lever shaft at point 'E' so that it will pass through at the present hole in the side channel, and we are to let them have a standard pendulum machined except for the bore at the top end which they will make to fit their existing taper.

With regard to the column they propose to make a casting so that our outside column tube will fit over when it can be fastened on in any desired manner.

The steering box is a malleable iron one.

Their inner steering tube will fit inside our steering tube as shewn, and there appears to be adequate room for our existing controls. You will note there is a slight foul between the column and the carburetter, but I think we will be able to adjust this by a modification to the air silencer.

We should be glad if you will look over this sketch to see if there are any points which we have missed.

We shall probably want to move this steering from car to car, but to begin with we wish to fit it
