| SECRET Y6116. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. Hn.{F. C. Honeyman - Retail orders}15/MK.{R. E. B. Meade-King} 9.8.35. Copy to Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} SpectreCodename for Phantom III Accessories. Your Ref: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.9/MA.8.8.35. You will have received a copy of Hn.{F. C. Honeyman - Retail orders}10/MK.8.8.35 in which amongst other things we mentioned that the Administration have not yet decided whether lamps will form part of the standard equipment or whether we should carry on as we have done in the past as regards R.R. chassis, that is to say, supply lamps as an extra only when specially ordered. As regards P.100 head lamps, we certainly do not think there is any need to order another pair whatever decision may be taken about standard equipment because we assume that if it comes to the point you will always be able to draw a pair of lamps from the Bentley stock at W. But we would suggest that you hand three pairs of the eleven pairs you have already obtained to Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} for the Demonstration and Experimental Cars Nos. 33-EX, 34-EX and 35-EX. As regards Lucas Pass lights (or fog lamps), you will have seen from the copy of our memo. of yesterday that we have arranged to send Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} three of these lamps for the Demonstration and Experimental Cars. We do not think there is any likelihood of the Administration deciding to standardise this lamp even if they decide to include head and wing lamps in the chassis price, so we think you can leave it to the coach-builder to supply the pass lamp for the car he is going to exhibit onhis own stand at Olympia. We shall only concern ourselves with the two Demonstration Cars, Experimental Car and the two cars for our own stand at Olympia. As regards the wing lamps, we are waiting to see the two samples which Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} advised us yesterday are being despatched, but the chances are that because these lamps have to be specially made we shall ask you to order them for the first cars regardless of whether the Administration decide to include them in the chassis price or not. If they decide against inclusion in the chassis price, then we shall sell the lamps to the coach-builders for their own chassis. | ||
