(P.S. of EFC's letter to Mr.Minchin). "The auto switch is undergoing minor improvements as a result of running on expl. cars." X4008 Extract from letter of Mr. Minchins dated end of Jan, 1928. I note what you say re auto switch and I have wondered lately whether you have gone too far away from your original design which you got up to the point of working extremely satisfactorily, and I take it that the only reason for your making a change was the desire to cut the charge off altogether and that it is since then that it is not working quite so well and I wonder if you will get it back working as well as it did originally. With regard to cutting off this charge altogether, the point has occurred to me that there may be a danger of getting rather a lot of charge in the case of just when the side and tail lamps are on, which discharge might be just sufficient to take off enough voltage to keep the dynamo charging at the full rate, and that there might be something to be said for having a small charging rate just equal to the side and tail lamp load so as to prevent such a situation arising. | ||
