1020a 13th September 1937 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Mths.{Reg Matthews}9/AP. The Rover Motor Co.Ltd., COVENTRY For the attention of Mr.M.C.Wilks Dear Sirs, We are despatching today 12 rough machined bearings in Aluminium-Tin alloy suitable for the connecting rod shown to us by Mr.Swaine. These bearings have been fully heat treated and only require machining to suit your rods. With this material we use a clearance of .001" per inch diameter of crankpin, so that if you finally bore the bearings .002" above the crankpin diameter they should be quite satisfactory. We are also despatching at the same time enough material in RR.56. alloy in which to make liners or shims for these rods, we suggest that these liners be made .100 thick, at the moment they are slightly over this dimension and should be finished to size after shaping. If there are any other points you would like clearing up please let us know when we shall be pleased to offer suggestions. We trust you have been able to drill the crankshaft as suggested. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
