Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CASH 6-5-40 To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c.c to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/HH. 1044 Jnr.{Charles L. Jenner}1/JH.25.4.40. B.80 Stromberg Carburetter Controls. Referring to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/ML.4.4.40. Please receive herewith - PL.178 Simplified throttle controls. PL.196 Hot spot operated choke. This design is the same for both the right hand and left hand unit. The bi-metal coil strip for operating the choke has been buried well inside the water jacket. The keep the instrument sensitive we have shown the actuating lever made with a balance arm to counter act the weight of the connecting rod. The rod is made light in weight .080 in diameter with jumped up ends. The electric heating of the bi-metal strip is not schemed but we have left room to incorporate it when Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/TAS.{T. Allan Swinden} finds it necessary. Would it not be as well to test this before we instruct a similar scheme for the B.60 engine in order to save the pattern alterations? Enclosed 4 copies of memo. 2 prints of PL.178 and 196.
