Dear Howlett,

I enclose herewith a photograph of some big end bearings of die-cast A.C.9., removed from one of our Experimental cars after 48,000 miles running, 23,000 miles of which were run at maximum speeds on the Continent.

You will notice the oil hole in the top half of the bearing which passes the lubricant up the connecting rod.

The filtering system used was a floating oil intake with a general by-pass filter.

These are the best bearings I have ever seen after this mileage and I am so impressed with them that I have removed them from the engine and covered them with transparent varnish.

This engine would by now have been in production had it not been for the war.

Yours sincerely,
