From Exp. Dept. Copies for: J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} R.{Sir Henry Royce} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} REPORT ON END THRUST TESTS OF BALL BEARINGS. Further to my reports Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/A1y12/L26614, Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/A1y9/L29614 and Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/A1y11/B3714. I have now repeated the tests on the Hoffmann, D.W.F. deep groove and Skefko bearings, but the speed was raised from 152 revs per minute to 567 revs per minute. X.515 - The Hoffmann has run with 1500 lbs end pressure for 20 hours and 10 hours with 2000 lbs end pressure. It has stood up better than in the previous test. I think this is due to a slight variation in the depth of the groove which is cut to insert the balls. On this bearing the balls run just clear of the groove and on the previous one the balls just fouled the end of the groove. X.1325 - The D.W.F. deep groove bearing has been through the same tests as the Hoffmann and has finished in excellent condition. The balls and races are undamaged and there is practically no end play. X.548 - The Skefko bearing was run with 1500 lbs end pressure for 20 hours and 1.hour 20 minutes with 2000 lbs pressure. It made a poor show and | ||
