- 2 - This is a very rough test which however serves to show up what we consider the outstanding cause of complaint on Phantom cars. We now have enough evidence both by this test and by maintenance complaints that even the 220 lb. clutch springs allow destructive slipping under some circumstances, and that a very little continuous slipping carbonizes the Ferodo and makes the clutch inoperative. On dismantling MX{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}-4 clutch we find the Ferodo deeply charred, and copper from the wire binding of the Ferodo plated over the fragments of the disc. The eight segments of the disc have broken off evenly on a line 1-1/4" from the edge of the disc. -continued- | ||
