Re Explosions in Silencer.

With reference to the above matter, Mr Platford reports as follows:-

"With reference to the above and Mr Royce's sheet of July 5th as to how the above is affected by ignition plugs and regarding the point raised re experience of stopping explosions in the silencer on the marine engine car by changing from Pognon to Bosch plugs. We have not made any definite experiments with this engine, but when testing on the dynamometer we certainly had a lot of trouble with pre-ignitions which we found was due to plugs in the exhaust position but no difference was made at the time by changing over Pognon to Bosch type of plug.

It is a fact that our present standard engines which are being turned out with Bosch plugs often have the fault of exploding in the silencer after
