X. 4342 V COPY FOR EFE [STAMP: RECEIVED 19 MAY 1921] Reference - DA {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} /THRL/CB18-5-21. May 18th, 1921. Messrs C.A. Vandervell & Co., Warple Way, Acton Vale, LONDON.W. Dear Sirs, X 4342V Re Starter Motor for 'Goshawk II' We are in receipt of your letter of the 12th inst., reference ZL/DM {D. Munro} on above. We note your remarks on the size of the six securing studs for the end plate. At the same time we feel that the 2BA studs should be large enough, as they are of the "fitted" type, whereby the full diameter is available to take the shear, and not the dia. at bottom of thread. This is practically the same as fitting C.B.A. studs of the ordinary type, possibly this point was not made clear to you previously. We regret to note that "N" Scheme 539 was sent you. This was a clerical error, and a revised copy of the correct drawing "N" Scheme 839 is sent herewith. Referring to the question of fitting a ball bearing at the commutator end of shaft, we note your remarks. Our principal reason for asking for same, was to have all the bearings on the starter motor alike, which to us, seems much more consistent. However, we think this point had better be left to yourselves to settle on the experimental motor, as you are in a much better position to judge to what extent it assists you in the construction of same. We shall be pleased to receive drawings you mention at your earliest convenience. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
