6066. To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wst. c. to E/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wst.16/AP.24.11.36. LUCAS NEW TYPE ELECTRIC HORNS. Messrs. Lucas now tell us that these horns were primarily designed for under bonnet mounting and they do not wish to chromium plate them and make them suitable for outside fixing. They are still subject to the mist effect which causes the existing wind tone horns to fail in heavy mist or fog. We have to decide however, whether we propose to retain the existing horns with their existing faults or arrange for an under-bonnet mounting for the new horns which presumably will get over the mist problem. In connection with this we propose to carry out a test, mounting the two horns immediately behind the radiator to ascertain what reduction in noise is caused by mounting them inside the bonnet.
