x761 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson}17/KW. 14th October, 1935. C.M. Thomas, Esq., Grasmere, Byfleet, Surrey. Dear Mr. Thomas, Thank you for your letter of October 8th. I was sorry I could not try your car before it went away, but I was abroad. They have fitted the increased leverage and I hope it will give you satisfaction. There is no doubt that a cause which largely contributed towards the trouble was excessive use of the Bijur lubrication. As I pointed out to you, we find that customers usually give the car about half the amount of attention that the instruction book recommends, and therefore the tendency is always to recommend too much oil. We cannot therefore blame you, but I think if you cut down the one-shot application by about 50%, the car will run just as well and the brakes will not disappear. Incidentally, the servo somehow got oil on it too. I do not know if the gearbox is washed down with paraffin, but if this is done I would recommend a cover is put over the servo to keep lubricant off it. I do hope that you will not be troubled with the brakes again. Yours sincerely, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
