YOUR REF.
OUR REF. WES/PW.

Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd.,
Derby.

For the attention of Mr. Martindale.

Dear Sirs,

You will no doubt recollect loaning to us last year one Bentley rear axle and two Bentley brake drums. As the squeal test which was to be carried out with this gear has now been superseded by a similar test on a disc brake, we consider your property should be returned and when this was mentioned to Mr. Dixon last Friday he suggested that it should be sent for your attention.

The axle is therefore being packed and will in due course be delivered to you, but we are retaining the two brake drums for the time being as we are in process of developing a new type of brake lining and it might be useful to obtain data on these curves against your own drums. Providing you are agreeable to the use of either or both these drums for test purposes, we will keep them here and when a 12" x 2" brake is mounted on our test rig we could obtain some figures from these drums.

We anticipate that the brake gear itself will be a two leading shoe brake manufactured by one of the proprietary brake manufacturers.

Yours faithfully,
FERODO LIMITED.

W.E.Shilton
Manager,
Technical Department.
