SPARKING PLUGS RETURNED FROM KINGSBURY SERVICE DEPOT. We have now tested eleven sets of plugs which have been returned to the Works from Kingsbury ex customers car reported as faulty, K.{Mr Kilner} having fitted new sparking plugs to the cars in question. It was found with two exceptions that every sparking plug was OK. when the gaps were reset to their correct value they operated perfectly satisfactorily on our pressure test of 80 lbs/sq.in. One set of these plugs was also fitted to one of our experimental Bentley cars 3.B.IV and have done a considerable mileage without any complaint being registered. We are therefore of the opinion that sparking plugs are being serviced unnecessarily at Kingsbury and we consider that if the plugs are cleaned and the gaps reset they will function satisfactorily in the engine. In our experience new plugs are not necessary on the Bentley until at least 15,000 miles has been run, and we are developing a sparking plug which will we hope last for a considerably longer mileage without giving trouble.
