X.2894 - TUNGSTEN CONTACT POINTS.

Please receive herewith copies of my assistant's reports on various investigations of tungsten contact points as follows :-

Report A.B.24 - Tests of Melin tungsten contact points.
" A.B.26 - Tungsten contact points run on a lower voltage.
" A.B.29 - Tungsten contact points run with double capacity and on lower voltages.

A few blades and screws of the R.R. standard battery ignition were fitted with tungsten points by C.Melin & Co., 7 India Street, Crutched Friars, London, E.C.3., and report A.B.24 refers to one of these.

A second set of these is running on the demonstration car, but no report is to hand at present.

There seems some prospect of these points behaving better than other sets we have had, although as stated in the report, not sufficiently well to warrant obtaining further sets of these. The test referred to in the report was under otherwise standard conditions.

Referring to report A.B.29, it will be noted that increased condenser capacity does not appear to be the solution of unsatisfactory operation of tungsten points, the actual points used in this instance being some fitted in U.S.A. by the Fansteel Co. to standard R.R. battery ignition blades and screws.
