8129. To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} C. Mr. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} re Peregrine - Oil Drain Cock for Engine. Please find attached blueprint of LeC.3322 showing revised design for drain cock combined with oil level device on Peregrine. Owing to a modified position of the brake rope we find we are now able to get the cock in more or less concentric with the level device and sufficiently clear of the brake rope when the cock is shut off. The cock plug is dropped in from above and the mud cap is shown attached by the method you mentioned. A larger spring carried on the cock handle shaft has been shown, and it is expected that the friction on the face carrying the upper reaction of the spring will prevent the cock handle from rattling. The stops for limiting the travel of the cock are now arranged to operate in connection with the handle as requested. We are hoping that the plug will be satisfactory in brass, and the seating made in the copper aluminium alloy made for pistons. We should be glad to have your remarks with reference to LeC.3322, but in the meantime we are putting the instructions in hand for experimental sets to be made up. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
