X1332 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}9/KW. 20th June, 1936. Messrs. Dunlop Ltd., Fort Dunlop, Erdington, Birmingham. For the attention of Mr. Healey. Dear Healey, We have run those two sets of tyres you sent us and at present neither of them are very bad for groans. We attribute this to the fact that they are hardly worn at all. We do not know whether it is possible for you to run them at higher speeds on worse road surfaces, but this appears to us to be essential if the uneven type of wear which produces groans is to be obtained. It may interest you to know that the tyres which we are at present running in France are averaging 3,000 miles to completely worn out condition on the rear axle of the car. We shall be glad if you will collect the four covers in question, as per our letter Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies}19/KW.19.6.36, and see what you can do to accelerate wear. We suggest that a further 1,500 miles on poor road surfaces in this hot weather would produce the desired result if sufficiently high speeds can be maintained. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
