Handwritten: WST Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. H.E. West. Further to our conversation with your Mr. Royce during our Mr. Berg's visit, and in reply to the questions put forward by you. a) The batteries put forward have a 60 ampere-hour capacity at 8 to 10 hour rate. b) The 180 amperes discharge referred to is for continuous 3 to 5 minute periods. The absolute maximum discharge is considerably more than this, and we have not the least doubt that it would be considerably more than 300 amperes momentarily. With regard to the question of dead short circuiting one of our batteries, this can be done without the slightest fear, and if you can give us an idea as to the voltage drop load we shall be able to tell you the ampere output of our batteries. c) The internal resistance measurements are obtained on batteries of our type by having at least 10 in series and the internal resistance figure .002 Ohms put forward refers to a single cell and not to a single double cell. The following method is used for obtaining the internal resistance figures in Ohms. The battery is to be on normal discharge at say the 10 hour rate which would be 6 amperes, this being called a normal load. Provisions are made in the circuit for momentary heavy load, say 4 times which is 24 amperes. Then a voltage reading is taken during normal load and the battery is subject to a momentary heavy load for say 1 minute. A ampere reading is taken and a voltage reading also during this performance. These figures [Bottom left emblem text: ALKALINE BATTERIES LIMITED] | ||
