RE CARBURETTORS.

With reference to carburettors, the design you propose appears to me to be imperfect in many ways, but if we can manage it, I will arrange for Mr. Day to get one made to your idea so that you can try it if you still desire to do so.

When Mr. Day was here before Xmas, we spent an evening on carburettors, and schemed the one a sketch of which is enclosed herewith. This has also been sent to Mr. Southern for a patent. The inverted cone was shewn us by Mr. Day. If he can claim this he joins the patent. The general arrangement and combination of parts have been schemed by me, but may be useless.

The present carburettor is so good and practical that it will be difficult to beat. Some of the imperfections of running are not due to carburettors, or to alterations that can be made to carburettor, but to other parts of the engine, induction pipes, possibly piston rings, ignition stratification, etc.

* Mr. Day says this cannot be claimed, it was suggested and tested some years ago before he joined us. We can only claim my combination and general arrangement.
