| X208 To Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} Large Carburetters & Induction Pipes on the Bentley. We have now completed some tests on the Bentley in which we show that there is little or no gain in top speed from using large carburetters. On the other hand, the slow running is definitely worse and the acceleration is slightly worse. Naturally we are not very satisfied with these results because large carburetters undoubtedly give more H.P. on the test bed. We therefore want to be very certain that we are right before we change back again. If, therefore, you find it convenient to check up on our figures in the next fortnight, we shall be very glad to know your results. We should recommend that the comparison is between the present 4¼ litre induction system complete and the 3½ litre induction system complete, using a 4¼ litre. I expect you would like to get some Brooklands figures yourselves on the 4¼ litre at the same time. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
