22nd. January, 1938.

Dear Sirs,

We acknowledge your letter of the 13th. instant, reference RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs}B/JH concerning the LR.{Mr Ellor}7 Voltage Regulator having a 3:1 ratio of swamping resistance to shunt winding resistance as per sample regulator in your possession, experimental No: LT.1427.

It has been agreed that we will make two of these LR.{Mr Ellor}7 Regulators to the details contained in your letter above referred to, and will assemble them to the Control Boxes which we have already sent to your Mr. R.{Sir Henry Royce} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Davis. Will you please arrange for the return of these control boxes, marked for the attention of the undersigned, as soon as ever possible.

Regarding the fitting of the resistances underneath the base, as is already known this would entail a deeper base, and in the case of the two control boxes above referred to, it would mean making special distance pieces or sub-bases. This would be costly and would take quite a little while to build as it is understood that your programme calls for these experimental cars to be completed within the next few days. Under these circumstances, we have informed Mr. Davis that we agree that if air holes are bored in the cover of these control boxes, which will allow the heat to dissipate, these boxes will be quite satisfactory for test purposes.

Yours faithfully,
JOSEPH LUCAS LIMITED.
