A.{Mr Adams} Robotham, Messrs. Rolls-Royce Limited, Nightingale Road, Derby. Dear Mr. Robotham, I thank you for your telephone call this afternoon, and regret that you are having trouble with the servo motor clutch discs. I think it is quite possible that the relatively large amount of black stencilling which has to go on these small discs may cause a drop of co-efficient of friction. Accordingly, instructions have been given today that all stencilling is to be omitted from discs supplied to you in this quality, and I am trying to get posted to you personally, tonight, six discs of each of your three usual sizes, with the stencilling so omitted. Incidentally, it is to be noted that you have required a part number marked on each individual disc; this will now be omitted, and the part number marked on the label which accompanies each batch of discs. With reference to the observation on the colour of the discs, you will find that, on storing, R.A.D.13 gradually becomes whiter as it remains exposed to the atmosphere. Thus, I do not think you need fear that this small difference in colour indicates any variation in manufacture or quality. Will you please let me know if the discs you receive tomorrow show any improvement? Should they not do so, further sets for trial will be put in hand immediately, and if you care to lend us the test apparatus, as you suggested over the telephone, we shall be only too willing to save you trouble by investigating the matter ourselves. Yours very truly, FERODO LIMITED, [Signature: J L Moncley] CHIEF CHEMIST. | ||
