To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 49940 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}7/LG18.6.24. FOUR WHEEL BRAKES. There are three levers in connection with the 4-wheel brakes which we recommend the Works do not make in large numbers. These are - the two levers G.72474/5. These levers can be completed except for the angle of the cams. The other lever is G.72083 on the front brake equaliser. The reason we recommend that quantities of these levers should not be made is because they affect the pedal pressure required and proportion of front braking. We have now fitted up four cars and find that there is, as we expected, variation in the cars as regards the amount of pedal pressure required and proportion of back and front braking. There is no reason why this should not be so because we have always been in trouble with effective and non-effective braking. As different people are bound to have different ideas as regards the correct pedal pressure, we think it will be wise to keep the levers we mention to a minimum until we have had more experience.
