Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} c. Hm. {Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} c. Mr Shelton. We have quite a number of fan blades breaking in service. I cannot find anything the matter with the material, and since we have a large number of cars on the road I am of the opinion that we should use a reinforcing piece behind each blade. Mr Shelton is issuing details of this to you and I would like you to make one and let us know whether you agree with us sending an alteration through. The proposal would be that if we got an epidemic set up we could send away reinforcement pieces and stop the trouble. From an examination of a number of blades I have satisfied myself that the fracture is due to overload and is a fatigue fracture. BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} By | ||
