X5310 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} c. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}3/23.10.30. X.7310 X.5310 X.523 RE - EASY CHANGE. Thanks for hsl/AD2.10.30. I am very pleased to note that R.{Sir Henry Royce} has taken this matter seriously and is busy making simpler schemes for easy change. You say that the scheme sent through for the 25 should need less development but this could not be looked upon as an immediate scheme. I am not quite clear what scheme this is. There has been so much correspondence that I have become very confused on the subject. Could you please enlighten me on this point? In regard to a simpler scheme for the Phantom II, I assume that this is the one referred to in your third paragraph and will provide quiet second, third and tops with easy change for each. This, as you intimate, is more than we really need, but the great thing is to get something which we can introduce with reasonable speed. Pleased to note he is interested in the gearbox from USA. and would like to see it when it arrives. I am not quite sure what the object is in fitting the Maybach type clutches to the gearbox which you have on a Phantom I with helical third speed, but I suppose it will be development work which is likely to prove of value in connection with this matter.
