YOUR REF Handwritten: Sent on Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 13/7/36 EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} 9th July, 1936. Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., DERBY. For the attention of Mr. Platford. Dear Sir, We have recently put on the market a new Silencer for motor cars which has been evolved after several years of exhaustive tests and careful experiments. The enclosed copy of a bench test which was made in a manufacturers works on a 3½ Litre engine shows an increase of 10% on the brake horse power at full load. Apart from the increased engine efficiency we guarantee to make the exhaust noises inaudible which we have done in a number of cases for private car owners. Lord Cottenham, who knows something of our Silencer, has kindly suggested that we should write to you with the object of making an appointment when we could put our proposals before you. We should be pleased to design a special Silencer for any engine on which you might care to try a Servais Silencer and submit it to you free of charge for test. Yours faithfully, For SERVAIS SERVICES LTD. E.R. Sworder. Sales Manager.
