RR 238 (150 BKS.) (DB{Donald Bastow - Suspensions} 461-8-12 x4) MP 306975 ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. INSTRUCTIONS. To: WST Order No.: (Cont.) Customer's No.: Plugs were then tested with water dropping on screens & cables, the plugs being under a pressure of 40 lbs/sq", this being the best pressure for sparking. After 2 hrs one plug stopped sparking & on inspecting the screen found water inside, the same applying to the other plug after 3 1/4 hrs. Test No 2 Breakdown tests at temperature 85°C 1) Plugs tested alone & jumped from centre electrode to earth at 17,700 volts (peak). 2) Screens & cables tested together, the end of cable jumping to earth on screen at 9750 volts & 9600 volts (peak). 3) Screens & plugs together, the same happening as in case (1) at 17,700 volts (peak). 4) Cables with terminals & insulator on, broke down block fibre insulator at 12,100 volts & 11,000 volts (peak). 5) Cable tested alone & withstood 13,000 volts (peak) without breakdown.
