3860 X802 EFG2/T. 23rd December, 1924. Messrs. The Macintosh Cable Co.Ltd., Ashbourne Road Mills, Derby. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 17th inst. with reference to Maconite cables. We have carefully considered this type of cable and we do not think we should realise any appreciable advantages in its use for our chassis wiring. Our present wiring is made to special sizes and carefully drawn into tubes which effectively protect the wiring against such effects as Maconite is designed to withstand. Actually the amount of trouble resulting from failure in any manner of the insulating covering is quite negligible. One of our cables in particular has a very thin covering, partly of pure rubber and partly of vulcanized rubber, and we do not think the equivalent thickness of Maconite would afford the same amount of mechanical protection, which is practically all that is needed in our cables. We think, however, this type of cable may be of some use in connection with power and lighting wiring on our Works, and we are accordingly handing over your letter and the samples to our Plant Dept. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
