A case of a D.W.S. Jack failing has occurred in customers hands (Chassis 52-MY). The pins fixing the operating shaft to the thread of the jack sheared, thus rendering the jack useless. We have taken up this matter with Mr. Donald Sessions who had anticipated this trouble. It appears that the people who manufacture the jacks for him have slipped up and not made the jacks to his drawings. The point is that all D.W.S. jacks so far fitted to Phantom II cars are liable to fail in a similar manner. Mr. Sessions has offered to take back all the jacks and modify them; he will bear the cost of removing, refitting, and modifying all these jacks. Mr. Sessions has stated that he will deal with all the cars in coachbuilders hands in London, if we will supply him with a list of the chassis and their whereabouts. Where-ever it is possible to change jacks where the car is in customers hands, this should be done. There is in the receiving stores a batch of D.W.S. jacks (12 sets in all) which arrived on the 22nd inst. these jacks are modified and it is important that they should not be mixed up with any other jacks as it is not possible to detect by sight whether or not the modification has been carried out. These twelve sets we suggest can be used for our immediate despatch needs. In the meantime all the jacks at present in the works should be immediately collected and returned to the factory in Birmingham, where they will be modified and returned to us in about three days. Mr. Sessions has mentioned to us that he has found cases of Phantom II cars, which have been fitted with jacks here, on which the jacks have been fitted their wrong side of the car. In the past the jack for the off-side rear has been stamped O.S., the near-side jack has not been marked. The jack for the front axle is easily distinguishable by the long operating shaft, and has therefore not been marked. We have arranged that in the future all the jacks shall be stamped with their respective positions, with | ||
