WRAITH PROPELLOR SHAFT.

The joints of the propellor shafts on cars up to the end of B series are liable to two troubles, loss of lubricant and indentation of the needle tracks.

When a car comes into a Depot at 12,000 miles or more the joints should be stripped and refilled with Mobilgrease No.2. If the stars or needle races are idented a service shaft should be fitted and the one from the car returned to the Works for new pieces and rebalancing.

A special pair of pliers are required for removing the circlips retaining the races and great care must be exercised not to damage the pressed guards holding the cork seals. Oil leaks between the stars and the guards are prevented by jointing compound. If these joints become broken they must be remade.

The whole universal must be reassembled exactly as originally fitted to maintain balance of the shaft.

When several shafts have been examined we shall be able to decide whether the larger joint fitted from 1 W C onwards must be fitted to all cars.
