Smith}1/N.1.8.32. Re: Peregrine Chassis. It has been decided by the Administration that further experimental chassis should be built at once, to have a total number of six complete cars on the road in three months time. This number includes the present car, and the material already ordered by the Experimental Dept. on the original instructions will be used in. The D.O. should issue to the Experimental Dept. duplicate blueprints of the "Peregrine" Index Sheet, and see that all supersheets are brought up-to-date in accordance with the list of experimental remarks on the first chassis, issued to Depts. under cover of memo BY/SS{S. Smith}1/N.8.7.32. It is important that all the outstanding items on this list are cleared up immediately so that the alterations may be included in further chassis being built. The following is a preliminary list of work which should also be dealt with by the D.O.. Crankcase & Bearings. Include on L.O.P. all details made for the larger crankshaft journal. Crankshaft. Issue details of shaft to R's 6/8 Balance weight scheme. Larger diameter journal and stroke reduced from 4.125 to 4.000. It is intended to test at least 2 of the cars with existing crankshaft having 4.125 stroke, to see if the reduction in stroke means any serious loss in performance. Piston. A new piston will be required with the crown raised .062 to allow for the reduction in the stroke. Cylinder Head. A new cylinder head drawing should be made to include the revised spacing of the Rocker Brackets, with a single bracket in the centre for a one single rocker shaft, improved position of the sparking plug, including better cooling passages, and the compression ratios altered from 5.85 to 6.25 to 1. | ||
