V1033 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}11/JH.9.4.36. 9th April 1936. The Zenith Carburetter Co., Honeypot Lane, Stanmore, Middlesex. For the attention of Mr. Fisher. Dear Mr. Fisher, Since your last visit to the works a test has been carried out at Brooklands by Mr. Dodd on a Phantom III, the carburetter incorporating the underneath feed as modified by Mr. Coverley, on an American body. This is in line with our final scheme Lec.4933 and gave satisfactory results without any signs of starvation. The specification of the needle and seat is as follows and should be included in the Phantom III carburetters from now on as a final job. (1) Needle orifice to be .179 dia. (2) Bull nosed needle as per attached sketch Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}108 which you previously sanctioned. The needle to be of the type as produced by you suitable for the .179 dia. seat. The bull-nosing of the needle does appreciable increase the flow, the figures showing an increase from 150 to 175 pints/hr. | ||
