4th. February 1938.

Messrs. Ferodo Ltd.,
Chapel-en-le-Frith.

For the attention of Mr.Longley.

Dear Sirs,

We have carried out further tests on the "Fero-grip" fan belts which you have sent us - in particular on the larger size ones. You will recollect that we returned one of the original pair of belts sent us for your examination in view of the distortion of its threads. At that time we had completed two hours endurance successfully on the second belt.

We have now continued endurance on the second belt. It has completed a total of 7 3/4 hours in all, comprising approximately 6 hours at 4000 R.P.M. of fan and engine (approximately 14 Fan Horsepower), 1 1/2 hours at 4250 R.P.M. of fan and engine and 1/4 hour at 4500 R.P.M. of fan and engine (approximately 18-20 Fan Horsepower). At the end of this running trouble was experienced - the belt turned inside out in the same manner as the first one and came off the driven pulley.

Examination showed that its section was distorted, we therefore sectioned it and returne the three pieces herewith for your inspection. It will be seen that the cords have pulled away from the rubber and have become displaced causing the section of the belt to become distorted and resulting in the belt riding down one side of the pulley Vee and so turning over.
