-20- Contd. If, when the positive fuse is removed, there is still current indicated but of a more or less reduced amount, it means that there is an earth on one of the following intermediate connections :- (a) Switchbox (H, S, or T) to lamps. (b) Switchbox (-, F, or C) to dynamo. If in (a), the particular lead will be indicated by the partial lighting up of the head, side or tail lamp corresponding to that lead. Otherwise the earth must be on one of the (b) connections of the dynamo. There is one other place where an earth might exist, namely, on the wire leading from top of coil to insulated terminal on contact breaker. Such an earth would be indicated by the ignition current as shewn on the ammeter not breaking when the engine is cranked (or the ignition lever moved) and of course, the battery ignition would not fire the engine properly under these circumstances. 2. CARE OF DYNAMO. (a) Lubrication of Bearings. These are self lubricating, if properly charged with grease in the first instance. Whenever the car is being overhauled or the dynamo is removed for any cause, the bearings should be cleaned out and re-greased. (b) Brushes. The commutator and brush system should not give rise to any trouble. It would be, however, advisable to inspect these now and again which can be done by removing the end cover of Contd. | ||
