EFC. WC.92. COPY 27.3.28. VARNISHED BATTERY IGNITION DISTRIBUTOR MOULDED HEADS. We have a number of battery ignition distributor heads varnished on the inside surface with various varnishes as an experiment on the capability or otherwise of these varnishes to prevent tracking across the surface. The various varnishes used are "Armacell", "Packyderm", Shellac, "Marconite", "Elo" and a varnish made up by Mr. Brock of synthetic resin dissolved in alcohol. We do not consider however that the last three named will be very effective as presumably they all have a synthetic resin base and we have since proved that the pure synthetic resin tracks just as easily as the mixed bakelite powder. Three heads varnished with Elo, Marconite and Shellac respectively are being tested under normal and abnormal conditions in the laboratory, the abnormal condition consisting of running the distributor open circuited. Distributor heads varnished with Elo, Mr. Brock's Varnish, and "Armacell" are, or are instructed to be, fitted to chassis 9-G3, 8-EX and 12-EX for test. EFC/H.E.West. | ||
