To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to CJ. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X. 8070 E1/M12.10.25. HEATING OF PHANTOM INDUCTION PIPE. The Phantom chassis down here which is fitted with small dia. aluminium induction pipe and water heating, was used by some of our people to go to the Motor Show, the journey in each case taking place in the evening. They reported that the car shewed signs of insufficient heating on the induction pipe, having the tendency to splutter when the throttle was opened. Mr. Royce would like you to try a hot air pipe to the rear exhaust as in sketch below. SEE ORIGINAL FOR SKETCH. also to measure the temperature of the ingoing and outgoing water to and from the jacket, with a view to increasing the size of the water pipes, and consequently the water flow, if the temp. difference justifies it. At the same time we should be interested to know if you have any evidence of the heating being insufficient as there are now opportunities of running the cars under cold weather conditions.
