Dear Mr. Bailey:

RE: CENTRAL CHASSIS LUBRICATION
Stamping of Drip Plugs

You will be interested in the following information taken from a letter from the makers and referring to the shipment of drip plugs on the "Majestic" November 5th.

"FBA signifies a standard drip plug - short - for use with one banjo.

"FBB signifies a standard drip plug - long - for use with two banjos. Derby planned to use such a plug to feed the inner end of the front axle brake operating shaft. Probably only on one side where the spring run was connected. On account of the slope of the front axle brake shafts it would not be advisable to depend on the inner end drip plug for the lubrication of the outer end bearing. It will, therefore, be necessary to either move the drip plugs to the outer end bearings or put individual drip plugs for both inner and outer bearings. In the former case, it will probably not be necessary to use these FBB type plugs.

"FBAS signifies a special plug - short - for use with one banjo. This plug contains a felt filter and valve, but no restriction pin, and would be used only in connection with the original front axle lubricating scheme in which the king pin swivel also acted as a drip plug. With the revised scheme of a gland-packed king pin swivel, it will not be necessary to use these FBAS plugs.

"FIA signifies the screw insert type plug for the lubrication of the lower front axle pivot bearing in connection with the new scheme."

Yours very truly,

MO/R
