EXPERIMENTAL REPORT.

Expl. No. 9771 REF: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/LG19.10.23.

REPORT ON PERFORMANCE AND CONDITION OF R.A.E. ENGINE AFTER 148 HRS. RUNNING.

The engine has now run 148 hrs. on the testbench. Out of that time approximately 100 hours have been devoted to investigation work on carburetter, valve timing etc. and 32 hours were run at full load at a speed of 2000 to 2500 r.p.m.

For the 32 hours endurance run an oil cooler was fitted which maintained the oil (Price's Moterine 'C') at an average temperature of 70°C, and an average pressure of 24 lbs/per sq.in. at 2500 r.p.m.

This test was run with the old type 40/50 R-R Carburetter with auxiliary air port in side as fitted to the Hawk Car.

The average power output was as follows :-

R.P.M. | Lbs. | HP. | B.M.E.P. lbs./sq.in.
2000 | 125 | 104 | 88
2500 | 108 | 112.5 | 75.5

The maximum power obtained from this engine with the Hawk Carburetter was :-

R.P.M. | Lbs. | HP. | B.M.E.P.
2000 | 130 | 108.3 |
2500 | 120 | 125 |

Bar: 672 m/m
Temp: of air at carb. inlet approx: 30°C
