DERBY.

Dear Sirs,
Your ref.Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}11/KW. Exptl.Dept.

Your letter of the 11th inst. addressed to our Albemarle Street office requesting information on our experience with the Buick Oil Temperature Regulator, has been forwarded to us for attention.

We have carefully noted your remarks as to the suggestions that have been made in connection with the slumming up of this cooler and would outline that, based on our experience here at Willesden, we have found that at approximately 20,000 miles, as suggested in the Buick Shop Manual, this instrument should be removed and thoroughly cleaned.

We have carried out this operation here on jobs of approximately this mileage, and, admitting that there was an accumulation of sludge which justified the cleaning operation, we have never yet removed one that was not failing to pass the oil in the proper manner.

We are quoting from our Manual the paragraph outlining the cleaning of this instrument, which might be of assistance to you in any problems that may arise in connection with this unit. We can assure you that based on our experience here at Willesden, the use of this temperature regulator has in every instance been fully justified, with no detrimental effect to the operation of the oiling system. The question of sludge in this cooler is undoubtedly very closely related to the owner's attitude towards changing the oil in his sump, as frequently as it should be done.
