STEERING COLUMN. The knock we complained of in steering column we found to be due to the top cover of the thrust housing on steering column being slightly damaged. It had a small pip on it, which when turning steering wheel caused a knock. Bottom corner of steering column flange, nearest engine, found broken. This has broken away close to tube. Other parts of steering are O.K. side steering tube and cross steering tubes are quite O.K. FRONT AXLE. Outside examination of pivot shews very slight wear. Brake operating shaft with larger bearings - no wear is noticeable. CLUTCH. Clutch is still O.K. fabric clutch/coupling - this has almost got as bad as 98 NK on its return to England. EXHAUST PIPE & SILENCERS. Exhaust lagging on rear & front silencers has opened out at front end on either silencer. This still appears to want further binding. The lagging on front silencer had also slipped backwards quite 1/2", making it impossible to use spanner on nut without first knocking it back. Sliding joints are still O.K. GEARBOX. Servo & mechanism quite O.K. slight oil leak from front & rear bearings. PEDALS. To scheme L.O.P. F.72559. These bearings are still O.K. ELECTRICAL FITTINGS. These are all working satisfactorily. RADIATOR & SHUTTERS. Radiator shutters are working O.K. Radiator spherical bearings - these have worn considerably. We should suggest that the bearing surface be made larger, to carry the heavier radiator. We are making a thorough investigation round the car whilst awaiting for conrod. We wired you this evening, as follows :- CORNER OF FLANGE BROKEN AT BASE OF STEERING COLUMN - HANCOCK. G.W.HANCOCK. | ||
