With the flexibly mounted engine we find that in a number of cases, the alignment is seriously affected (to the extent of .025") by the restraining action of the exhaust pipe. The sliding joint we find, does not remain satisfactory for long, even though accurately made and fitted originally. There is always a tendency to seize up. If the joint is made slack to start with an exhaust blow occurs which usually gets worse, and is at any rate not passable. We feel there may be complaints of noisy gear boxes arising from this source when in service. Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} | ||
