R.R. 235A (100 T) S H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 159 (1-8-20) G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 2500 TO HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c.c. to CJ. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} Handwritten: Spring for closing throttle with Starter Carb 6EX & others Stamp: ORIGINAL Stamp: RECEIVED 17 DEC 1922 HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 40/50 CHASSIS - SPRING FOR CLOSING MAIN THROTTLE WHEN STARTER CARBURETTER IS FITTED. With reference to the model of the above received for fitting to chassis 6.EX., would you kindly note the follow-ing alterations should be made in accordance with Mr. Royce's wishes:- (1) The sheet metal arm or bracket carrying the stationary end of the tension spring should be swelled out where it is hollow rivetted to the bracket; the model appears weak at this point. (2) The heavy gun metal bracket should be replaced by a light aluminium straight line hollow box die casting having gun metal bushes for the moving shaft. (3) The distance piece between the lever coupled to the car-buretter and the spring lever could be left out, and the spring lever moved to a position choc-a-bloc with the throttle lever, a longer pin being used similar to the one fitted for carrying the stationary end of the tension spring. It is realised that the gun metal bracket is the standard one always fitted slightly modified, but there is no reason why we should go on perpetuating this weighty fitting which turns the scale at over a lb.
