Dear Sirs,

For the attention of Mr. Dixon.

We have examined the two pumps returned by you. The spring on one side of the Bentley pump was certainly weak. We do not think this will occur again as these are now all being checked up for strength.

So far as the high pressure pump is concerned, this arrived in the first place with the one contact breaker end smashed and the wires damaged. We therefore had to fit the spring and diaphragm assembly into a new pot before testing the pump. When this was done the three sides were absolutely consistent and consistent with the pumps which we are at present supplying to you. Our method of testing these for pressure now is to use a length of ½" tubing connected to the pump and going up to a height of 5 ft above the outlet union, the tubing being continued down in a "U" to below the level of the pump. At the top of the "U" is fitted a short piece of smaller bore tubing to provide an air vent, and we find with this as a rule each side will deliver a pint in approximately 65 seconds, the particular sample you returned to us took 67 seconds.

We do not know if this arrangement compares with what you are using, but we should like to establish a limit on this as we do not think a variation of 10 seconds under these conditions is excessive. We should like your opinion of this.

Yours faithfully,
For THE S.U. CARBURETTER CO. LTD.
