The top plate of the front spring is machined all over, including the edges from a forging. .100 of metal is removed all over. It is polished after hardening. All leaves are ground to remove roughness in the bedding faces, and polished all over the outside. We do not paint springs, as the coachbuilders remove the paint before applying their own color, and the paint-remover rusts the joint faces. Springs are lubricated with graphite grease and covered with a rust-proofing grease on chassis. When body is fitted, gaiters are applied which have felt liners soaked in engine oil. | ||
